The measures taken for comprehensive management of the water environment in the Taihu Basin and the achievements are summarized in this paper. Lessons learned from this study are analyzed, aiming to provide references for comprehensive management of the water environments of other rivers and lakes of China. The results show that comprehensive management of the water environment in the basin needs close attention from the government, scientific planning, an effective coordination mechanism, and water treatment and management according to the law.
