Abstract:In 2014, China legislatively established theNational Memorial in order to pay homage to victims inNanjing Massacre in the name of the nation, collect socialmemories and strengthen national identification. TheNational memorial is an experiential research target ofheightening national identity, which reflects the essentialcollective features of national identity and the objectiveimpact of social memories. Social memories are the ties ofnational homage and national identity. Through collectivememories of national calamity, symbolic representation ofhistory and strengthening reality and valid sense, nationalhomage can rewrite social memories. By reaching socialconsensus, hosting memorial ceremonies and manifestingthe power of discourse, it makes social memories possible tointensify national identification. All in all, connectingnational homage, social memories and national identificationtogether is the rational and long-term choice to coheremultiple cultures.
