The report of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China declares that socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era. Based on the new historical position, grasping the basic connotation of socialist ideology and clarifying the requirements and mission of socialist ideology construction in the new era are the prerequisites for a new round of socialist ideology work. The construction of socialist ideology in the new era is faced with some new problems, such as the damage of authority caused by the conflict of concepts in the accelerated transition of the society, the security threatened by the cultural penetration of western countries, the disturbance of order by the convenient and complex new media, and the erosion of public trust by the slack and illegal activities of some party members and cadres. It is needed to strengthen the ideological construction within the party, cultivate professional talents, pay attention to the use of new media, do a good job in propaganda work for public opinion, consolidate the economic foundation of socialist ideology construction and improve various guarantee systems, so as to comprehensively and effectively promote the construction of socialist ideology in the new era. 
