The world is facing serious water crisis. The seawater desalination, as a technology which can produce freshwater from seawater, has become an important method to solve water crisis in coastal areas and islands. The seawater desalination industry in China has accumulated foundation and experience for output of the seawater desalination technology and possessed the capacity and advantage to go global for years of development. The foundation of seawater desalination technology and industry and the development status of international cooperation in China are summarized, and some suggestions are put forward for further promotion of the progress of international cooperation of seawater desalination.
