    Abstract:

To achieve rapid construction of dams, an innovative large inclined layer continuous rolling placement technique was used in the TB Hydropower Project. This technique combines multiple dam sections into a single placement zone and utilizes the end-retreat method for swift opening and placement. The zone is managed in sub-sections, allowing for simultaneous preparation of adjacent zones during placement. This reduces the interval between placements, decreases the intensity of material supply demands on aggregate and mixing systems, ensures balanced production, and increases monthly placement volumes. The technique addresses challenges such as tight construction schedules, high placement intensity, and limited capacity of aggregate processing and mixing systems. It sets a new record for the construction timeline of roller compacted concrete (RCC) dams. The TB Hydropower Project completed its RCC placement in just 19 months, with a total concrete volume of 2.25 million m3. This provides valuable experience for the rapid construction of high RCC dams in the future.
