This paper reviews the formation time, sediment foundation, and sediment sources of radial sand ridges (RSR). Based on some recent outcomes of the sources and transport process of sediment in RSR obtained from the National Science-Technology Support Plan Projects during the Twelve Five-Year Plan period, it is pointed out that research on sediment exchange between the Yangtze Estuary and coastal areas of Jiangsu Province, as well as orders of magnitude of sediment flowing into and out of RSR in the north, east, and south directions, should be carried out.
