Abstract:Selecting data of daily runoff acquired from 5 typical hydrological stations along main stream and tributaries of Xijiang River over the past 60 years, the spatial and temporal characteristics of hydrological drought in Xijiang River basin are studied based on the standardized runoff drought index(SRDI). The results show that: (1)Hydrological droughts in Xijiang River Basin mainly occur in 1950s, 1960s and 2000s. Besides, the prone periods include 1950s’ winter, 1960s’ spring, 1980s’ summer and 2000s’ autumn. (2)The annual maximum droughts days continuously appear in any site are shorter than 5 years. The occurrence areas of light droughts have the tendency to expand, while the extreme droughts are likely to be more regionalized. (3)Hydrological droughts in Xijiang River Basin are of significant regional characteristic that drought severities of 4 tributaries are diverse during the same typical drought years. Statistically, the years when droughts are monitored in 4 tributaries simultaneously are only in 1963, 1989, 1991, 2009 and 2010.
