The formation of the Metaverse marks the advanced stage of social digital development, which is bound to lead to further creation of the current government digital governance system. The imagination of future governance in technological narratives, as well as the “game” super domain effect based on commercial capital operation in reality, reveal the possibility and prospects of empowering government digital governance in the Metaverse. Based on the connection between top-level design and low-level follow-up, a logical approach with the clue of “principle-mode-carrier-efficiency” is proposed. Among them, the mixed law system of digital technology-economy supported by the Metaverse provides the driving force for government digital governance innovation as a governance principle, while the new digital situational governance model developed endows the subject with the “presence” ability through “replacement” and “imitation” logic, and constructs the “free person consortium space” as a carrier to strengthen the subjectivity status of people in digital governance, ultimately achieving governance efficiency centered on order and justice.Starting from the current dilemma of government digital governance, the overall strategy of empowering government digital governance in the Metaverse is constructed, which includes anchoring real governance needs, optimizing government organizational structure, and coupling digital platform construction with three empowering paths, as well as forming an action strategy characterized by key projects traction, multi agent linkage, diverse intelligent governance connections, and the integration of complex intelligent systems. In the future, the key to empowering government digital governance in the Metaverse lies in paying attention to the logical transformation of government digital governance systems from the perspective of “detachment”, strengthening the protection of government platform publicity in the context of “gaming”, and guarding against the endogeneity risks of the “hyper real” symbolic world. On this basis, this article reflects and questions how the Metaverse can continue and revitalize the brilliance of technological governance in the foreseeable future.
