Current research on humanistic economics primarily adopts three perspectives: economic, cultural, and civilizational. Humanistic economics from the economic perspective seeks to rectify the instrumental rationality bias of mainstream Western economics through a humanistic spirit. From the cultural perspective, it moves beyond a purely economic viewpoint to emphasize the role of culture in constructing the economy and society. From the civilizational perspective, it transcends the implicit opposition between culture and economy inherent in the economic and cultural perspectives, aiming to achieve their dialectical unity. These three perspectives generally follow a dynamic evolutionary trajectory—from economy to culture to civilization—where each successive perspective critiques and refines the previous one, forming the internal logic behind the shifts in research viewpoints within humanistic economics. However, overall, scholars have focused more on reaching a conceptual consensus and establishing a corresponding analytical framework for humanistic economics, while paying insufficient attention to its dynamic adaptation in specific practice. Therefore, advancing research in humanistic economics should go beyond conceptual debates. It is essential not only to ground such work in the civilizational perspective of humanistic economics but also to proceed in the context of further deepening reform comprehensively. By closely aligning with the theme of high-quality development and concentrating on transitioning from scale- and speed-driven growth to quality- and efficiency-driven growth, from factor-driven advantages to innovation-driven momentum, and from external dependency to enhanced coordination between internal and external circulations, while implementing the reform requirements of the new development philosophy and adhering to the fundamental methodology of “integrating the basic tenets of Marxism with China’s specific realities and its fine traditional culture”, we can systematically explore the theoretical connotations and practical pathways of humanistic economics.
